| The Pottery factory
in Bahla: Archaeological excavations in several parts and regions of the Sultanate confirmed that pottery industry was booming in that part of the Arab world. The wilayats (provinces) of the Interior are known for their excellence in this industry. Bahla, in particular, is famous for the pottery industry due to the availability of skilled potters as well as the required raw materials. With the dawn of the renaissance age under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in 1970, and in view of the huge development in all walks of life in the Sultanate, several potters and craftsmen moved to the urban areas looking for more lucrative job opportunities. Furthermore, youth generation of the sons of craftsmen tended to specialize in other professions that suit their education other than those of their fathers. So, the government, mindful of such a serious situation on crafts industries especially pottery, established the pottery factory in the Wilayat of Bahla in order to preserve this very important industry and protect it from extinction. |
